A Pet Trust is a form  of a revocable trust, which  documents your wishes for the care of your  pets if you are no longer able to care for them. A Pet Trust allows you to name a Trustee to oversee designated funds that you specify for the pets' care and maintenance. A Pet Trust also allows you to designate a Caregiver who will be able to step in and provide  for the needs,. and the care of your pets, and allows you to include detailed instructions to ensure that your pets maintain the same quality of life you provide them. As of 2017, all 50 states and the District of Columbia recognize pet trusts as a valid method  of providing  for the care of companion animals, without  the necessity of court intervention.  The customized trust terminates  on the death of your pet or, if the trust  is created to provide  for the care of more than one pet,  on the death of the last surviving pet, and allows you to determine  the   distribution  of the trust's  remaining assets.
